What is SciVal Funding?
Elsevier’s SciVal Funding is a tool that helps researchers and research administrators find the most relevant funding opportunities to become more competitive in securing funding.
The product delivers quick and comprehensive access to current funding opportunities, awarded grant information and provides targeted recommendations based on pre-populated research profiles, allowing users to:
- Find the right funding opportunities
- Analyze the funding environment
- Maximize chances for award success
SciVal Funding is part of Elsevier’s SciVal Suite, offering a range of products to help support and execute research strategy and improve research outcomes.
What makes this tool unique?
Rather than just a funding opportunity database, SciVal Funding provides information that can help the investigator when putting together a proposal:
- Information about previously awarded grants
- Targeted recommendations based on pre-populated research profiles (Scopus)
- Related publication data
Moreover, the user-friendly and intuitive interface requires little to no user training or support to get started, empowering users to find the funding information they need to succeed.
How many funding opportunities are in the system, and which sources are covered?
SciVal Funding indexes funding content from over 4,500 international sponsors, providing more than 14,000 active opportunities and over 2.46 million awarded grant records. Funding content gets updated on a daily basis, with the content being captured directly from trusted sources.
For any funding content related questions, please refer to the Funding Content Policy or download a list of the sponsors covered in SciVal Funding – Updated January 2012
Does SciVal Funding include opportunities from private sources, as well as sources supporting Social Sciences, specifically Arts & Humanities?
Yes, SciVal does provide funding opportunities for Social Sciences including Arts & Humanities from non-government sources including State, Local, Corporate, Foundation and Charities.
What search options does the system provide?
The system supports a range of different search options, both for funding opportunities and awarded grants.
- Basic keyword search: you can run basic searches on keywords – either for opportunities or awards - via the quick search window on the home screen.
- Advanced search: for a more targeted search, the advanced search window provides a wide range of specifications to narrow down your focus. For example, you can search for a specific funding type, e.g. private sources, and then add a keyword, or search without a keyword to get all content from all of these sources. Also, you can search specifically for limited submission opportunities, or opportunities specifically targeted for junior investigators.
- Search on research profile: you can search for recommended opportunities based on individual profiles. This search could be based on your own preferences, as well as any other researchers’ profiles, enabling you to conduct searches on behalf of others.
Result sets can be refined by using various navigators such as ‘Sponsor Country’ or ‘Amount’, or conducting a ‘search within results’. Moreover, you can set up email alerts, save searches or share result sets as you please.
Boolean search logic and wildcard search functionality also improve the overall search experience and outcomes.
Finally, you can browse by sponsor, subject area or location.
How do these targeted recommendations based on pre-populated profiles work?
Set up targeted recommendations by adding publication profiles for an individual or group of researchers. Recommendations are based on publication history and eligibility.
A SciVerse Scopus subscription will allow users to link beyond the related publications at a sponsor level and view information about co-authors and peer-reviewed literature.
Can I edit my profile?
You can adjust the keywords or add multiple profiles at your preference, to make it best reflect your current research interest. Also, you can merge different profiles to get recommendations on teams.
Does SciVal Funding offer alerts about new opportunties?
Yes, you can set up an email alert or save a search on any query you might want, e.g. on specific funding opportunities, awards or sponsors. Moreover, in addition to saving searches or setting up email alerts, you can use RSS feeds.
How can I request a trial?
Please fill out the request form and a log in will be sent to you for a fully functional 30 day trial.
